The National Registration Bureau yesterday said more than 9.2 million eligible Kenyans are yet to be registered as voters, despite having valid national ID cards.

Director Reuben Kimotho attributed the high number of unregistered voters to lack of information.

“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission should carry out sustained sensitisation and mobilisation campaigns to reach out to eligible voters to be registered,” he said.

Kimotho spoke before the joint parliamentary select committee inquiring into electoral reforms.

He questioned why the IEBC has only registered about 14.4 million voters, yet records at the Bureau show 26.3 million people have IDs.
