ECOWAS Court President Calls for Global Movement to End Statelessness

The President of the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, Honorable Justice Maria Do Ceu Silva Monteiro has advocated a ‘global movement to end the scourge of statelessness,’ in which some 10 million people in the world are not considered to be the citizen of any country and subject to its law.

‘ This is unconscionable and one of the anachronisms of the world as it contributes to the perpetuation of human suffering because without the legal protection offered by citizenship, the victims are exposed to severe hardships,’ she said at a forum organised with the UNHCR on Thursday, 3rd March 2016 in Abuja.
