Kenya: Raila adviser denies being a foreigner

Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s adviser on grand coalition matters has denied claims that he renounced his Kenyan citizenship.
Mr Miguna Miguna said he was a Kenyan by birth and that he had never changed citizenship. He was reacting to a letter from the Party of National Unity (PNU) to Mr Odinga, asking him to fire Mr Miguna from the coalition management team for allegedly breaching the Constitution.
“While Mr Miguna Miguna was born in Kenya, he has since become a citizen of Canada. Like all other expatriates working in the country, our laws require that Mr Miguna apply for and obtain the relevant permits to live and work in Kenya,” read the letter copied to civil service boss Francis Muthaura and the Canadian High Commissioner in Kenya.

But speaking to the Nation at the weekend, Mr Miguna who is joint secretary to the Permanent Committee on the Management of Grand Coalition Affairs, said he had not received a copy of the letter from PNU. He said those making the allegations must prove “where, how and when I renounced my Kenyan citizenship which I acquired by birth”.
