The Director-General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Mr. Ashishana Okauru, has called on governors to embrace the National Identity Card project for demographic and governance planning.
According to him, there is enormous political mileage to be covered in the project, which can benefit governments at the sub-national level.
Okauru spoke during the week when he received the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Mr. Aliyu Abdulaziz, at NGF’s Abuja secretariat.
Okauru said the data embedded in the National Identity Card included personal biometrics, bank registration pins and the possibility for the card to harmonise all information concerning individuals all over the country.
“This is good for planning, taxation and quick and reliable polls for statistical purposes at the state level”, he added.
Responding, Abdulaziz said the commission acquired a make-over by dissolving from a national identity card to a national identity number.
