Scores of people in Southern Africa are said to be stateless.. This effectively means that they would not be able to vote, get a drivers licence or even open a bank account and are considered not to ‘exist’ in their own country. This due to lacking any form of identity and nationality documents. To help us unpack this issue, we are now joined by Angele Dikongue-Atangana from the UNHCR Regional Bureau for Southern Africa as well as Phindile Mabuza who is at risk of being stateless.
