Introduction:
The Registrar General, Tobaiwa Mudede, appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence and Home Affairs on 20 February 2007 to give evidence on the challenges that the Central Registry is facing. As part of the evidence, he stated that anyone born from parents of foreign citizenship had to renounce citizenship by descent according to citizenship laws, to avoid problems in applying for passports. He categorically stated that most of the victims were farm workers.
It is based on this evidence that Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) presents these submissions to the committee.
