Bien que le droit international en matière de droits de l’homme laisse l’autorisation d’avoir également une autre nationalité à la discrétion des Etats, de plus en plus de pays, aussi bien à l’échelle internationale qu’en Afrique, permettent la double (ou multiple) nationalité. Une grande majorité des pays africains autorisent désormais la double nationalité à la fois pour les citoyens d’origine et pour les citoyens naturalisés. Dans certains pays, comme l’Afrique du Sud, il faut obtenir l’autorisation du gouvernement.
