The Government of Uganda is set to be dragged to courts law for omitting  information about “citizenship by descent” in the registration process for national Identity Cards.

The lawsuit is being brought by the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), under the stewardship of former presidential candidate Joseph Kabuleta.

Mr Kabuleta told press on Monday that he personally took issue with the fact that the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) does not include on its biodata forms, information about one’s own heritage and ancestry.

Kabuleta says Uganda is the only country in the Common Wealth nations which doesn’t consider citizenship by descent, which he says is unfair especially to persons born by Ugandan citizens outside the country.
