Great news for Sihle Collen Nxumalo, who finally received documents confirming his South African nationality. Until then, Sihle lived a stateless life. Following an interview on Morning Live, the Leanne Manas Show, Sihle’s case was successfully processed by the Department of Home Affairs. He can now access services, fully enjoy his rights and resume his education. Sihle intends to study law and help others in a similar situation.

IN BRIEF

  • In addition to Sihle, 37 persons obtained confirmation of their nationality in the region.
  • 20,000 people, previously undocumented, have been issued with birth certificates in the Republic of Congo,1, 000 in the month of June alone.
  • Since January, nearly8,000 stateless persons, or at risk thereof, have received legal services through law clinics in Madagascar, Mozambique and South Africa.
  • Botswana has registered 4 new statelessness pledges to GRF
