ZIMBABWE Community in South Africa chairperson Ngqabutho Mabhena on Tuesday engaged South African Deputy President David Mabuza seeking his intervention over plans not to renew permits for Zimbabwean immigrants in that country.

South Africa recently said it would not renew Zimbabwe Special Permits (ZSPs) beyond December 31, but the permits remain valid until December 2022.

Permit holders have been advised to apply for other visas or face deportation.

“First, we have serious challenges with documentation.

The current Immigration Act says, if my father was born in South Africa, I can claim citizenship through descent, but I cannot claim citizenship through forefathers because they migrated from here,” Mabhena told Mabuza during the meeting.
