Act to Establish the Children’s Law of Liberia, 2011
Published: 1/Sep/2011
The Act provides that “Every child shall have a right to have her or his identity preserved” but does not contain any provision recognising children’s right to nationality.
The Act requires the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to work with “the international community, civil society organizations and government, and public agencies and service providers to provide access to basic social welfare and services” for refugees and internally displaced children (Article VII, Section 5).
The Act also amends the Public Health Law to state that the birth of each child shall be registered within fourteen days after the date of birth by filing with the Registrar of the district in which the birth occurred a report of such birth (Section 51.21.1).
