{"id":1519,"date":"2016-06-20T12:27:30","date_gmt":"2016-06-20T12:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/test.hennhoneyball.com\/border-changes\/"},"modified":"2016-07-21T14:38:19","modified_gmt":"2016-07-21T14:38:19","slug":"border-changes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/state-succession\/border-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Border changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A particular category of border population most affected by doubts around nationality are those affected by border disputes; including those where administration of territory has been transferred as a result of a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).<\/p>\n<p>The best known ICJ decision transferring territory in Africa, and the one affecting the most people, was handed down in 2002 and awarded the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icj-cij.org\/docket\/files\/94\/7453.pdf\">Bakassi Peninsula<\/a> bordering Nigeria and Cameroon to Cameroon, placing a population of perhaps one hundred thousand people at risk of statelessness.<\/p>\n<p>Other cases relate to disputed frontiers where borders were not firmly established during the colonial period or on the transition to independence.<sup>\u00a0<\/sup> They include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icj-cij.org\/docket\/index.php?p1=3&amp;p2=3&amp;p3=1\">ICJ rulings<\/a>\u00a0on the \u201cAouzou Strip\u201d between Chad and Libya, and on disputes between Burkina Faso and Mali, Botswana and Namibia, Benin and Niger, and Burkina Faso and Niger.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A particular category of border population most affected by doubts around nationality are those affected by border disputes; including those where administration of territory has been transferred as a result of a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
