{"id":1537,"date":"2016-06-20T12:27:31","date_gmt":"2016-06-20T12:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/test.hennhoneyball.com\/cameroon\/"},"modified":"2021-05-26T11:14:14","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T11:14:14","slug":"cameroon","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/central-africa\/cameroon\/","title":{"rendered":"Cameroon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nationality in Cameroon is governed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/loi-n-1968-lf-3-du-11-juin-1968-portant-code-de-la-nationalite-camerounaise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1968 Code de la Nationalit\u00e9<\/a>. The law provides both women and men rights to transmit nationality to children, subject to rules establishing descent for children born out of wedlock. It also provides that a child born in Cameroon who does not acquire any other nationality at birth is Cameroonian. However, a woman has no right to transmit her nationality to a foreign husband.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/crc-75th-session-recommendations-on-right-to-a-nationality-statelessness-birth-registration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UN Committee on the Rights of the Child<\/a> has expressed concern regarding the large number of births which are not being registered, despite such registration being obligatory.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution of the <a href=\"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/agreement-between-cameroon-and-nigeria-concerning-the-bakassi-peninsula\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conflict over the oil-rich Bakassi peninsula<\/a>, which in 2006 was officially transferred from Nigeria to Cameroon territory, has led to the risk of <a href=\"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/stateless-in-bakassi-how-a-changed-border-left-inhabitants-adrift\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statelessness<\/a>. Most of those who remained in now-Cameroonian Bakassi continue to consider themselves Nigerian, but have no identity documents recognising them as either Nigerian, and have also not acquired Cameroonian citizenship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Nationality in Cameroon is governed by the 1968 Code de la Nationalit\u00e9.
