The reforms of 2019 eliminated discrimination based on sex in the transmission of Guinean nationality to children and spouses. The Code also provides for automatic attribution of Guinean nationality to a child born in Guinea of one parent also born there, and to a child born in Guinea of parents who are unknown, stateless or of unknown nationality. A newborn child found in Guinea is presumed to be Guinean.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Guinea adopted a\u00a0<a title=\"Guin\u00e9e: Plan d\u2019action national pour \u00e9radication de l\u2019apatridie en Guin\u00e9e \u2013 P\u00e9riode: 2014-2024\" href=\"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/guinee-plan-daction-national-pour-eradication-de-lapatridie-en-guinee-periode-2014-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">national action plan for the eradication of statelessness<\/a>, supplemented by a <a title=\"Guin\u00e9e: D\u00e9cret D\/2017\/083\/PRG\/SGG portant cr\u00e9ation du programme national pour l\u2019\u00e9radication de l\u2019apatridie en Guin\u00e9e\" href=\"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/guinee-decret-d-2017-083-prg-sgg-portant-creation-du-programme-national-pour-leradication-de-lapatridie-en-guinee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decree adopted in 2017<\/a> establishing the institutions to implement the plan.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/crc-concluding-observations-guinea-2013\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UN Committee on the Rights of the Child<\/a> expressed concern in 2013 that only one third of births are registered, and <a href=\"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/crc-concluding-observations-guinea-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remained concerned in 2019<\/a>, despite efforts at reform.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Nationality in Guinea is governed by the Code civil of 2019.
