ACHPR\/Res.277(LV)2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>The African Commission on Human and Peoples&#8217; Rights (the Commission), meeting at its 55<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Ordinary Session held from 28 April to 12 May 2014 in Luanda, Angola;<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Recalling<\/i><\/b>\u00a0the provisions of Article 45(1) (b) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights which stipulates that the Commission shall \u201cformulate and lay down principles and rules aimed at solving legal problems relating to human and peoples&#8217; rights and fundamental freedoms upon which African Governments may base their legislation\u201d;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Bearing in mind<\/i><\/b>\u00a0its <a href=\"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/resolution-on-the-right-to-nationality-achpr-res-234liii2013\/\">Resolution ACHPR\/Res.234 (LIII) 13 on the Right to Nationality<\/a> adopted at its 53<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0Ordinary Session held from 9 to 23 April 2013 in Banjul, The Gambia;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Considering<\/i><\/b>\u00a0the roadmap for the implementation of Resolution ACHPR\/Res.234 (LIII) 13 adopted in May 2013 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and the meeting of various stakeholders held in Midrand, South Africa, in April 2014;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Considering<\/i><\/b>\u00a0the adoption of the<a href=\"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/achpr-study-on-the-right-to-nationality-in-africa\/\"> Study on the Right to Nationality in Africa<\/a> by the Commission during its 55<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Ordinary Session held from 28 April to 12 May 2014 in Luanda, Angola;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Stressing<\/i><\/b>\u00a0the need to take new decisive steps towards identifying, preventing and reducing statelessness and protecting the right to nationality;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Considering<\/i><\/b>\u00a0the need to prepare a Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights on the Right to Nationality in Africa:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><i>Decides<\/i><\/b>\u00a0to assign the task of drafting a Protocol to the Special Rapporteur on Refugees, Asylum Seekers, Internally Displaced Persons and Migrants in Africa;<\/li>\n<li><b><i>Calls upon<\/i><\/b>\u00a0civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support the mechanism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Download PDF of both ACHPR resolutions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Resolution 234 on the Right to a Nationality, adopted by the African Commission on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights, meeting at its 53rd Ordinary Session held from 9 to 23 April 2013 in Banjul, The Gambia;
