{"id":12222,"date":"2017-02-14T14:27:14","date_gmt":"2017-02-14T14:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=12222"},"modified":"2017-02-21T14:32:55","modified_gmt":"2017-02-21T14:32:55","slug":"south-afric-children-finally-recieve-birth-certificates-after-lrc-intervenes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/south-afric-children-finally-recieve-birth-certificates-after-lrc-intervenes\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa: Children finally recieve birth certificates after LRC intervenes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes\u00adter\u00adday, 13 Feb\u00adru\u00adary 2017, two chil\u00addren born in South Africa to a Swazi mother and South African father have finally had their births reg\u00adis\u00adtered and unabridged birth cer\u00adtifi\u00adcates issued after the LRC inter\u00advened on their behalf.<\/p>\n<p>The cou\u00adple approached the LRC after they were unable to reg\u00adis\u00adter and obtain birth cer\u00adtifi\u00adcates from the Depart\u00adment of Home Affairs because the mother entered South Africa when she was 15 years old and she has been unable to obtain any doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion legal\u00adis\u00ading her stay.<\/p>\n<p>The cou\u00adple have been in a rela\u00adtion\u00adship since 2007 and made an appli\u00adca\u00adtion for the reg\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion of their old\u00adest child nine years ago. Because the cou\u00adple have been unable to obtain the birth cer\u00adtifi\u00adcates for the chil\u00addren, the old\u00adest child had been denied entry into school.<\/p>\n<p>The LRC launched an urgent appli\u00adca\u00adtion in the Dur\u00adban High Court on 1 April 2016 seek\u00ading an order for the Depart\u00adment of Home Affairs to issue the birth cer\u00adtifi\u00adcates.<\/p>\n<p>The Depart\u00adment of Home Affairs and The Direc\u00adtor Gen\u00aderal of Home Affairs opposed the appli\u00adca\u00adtion, on the basis that they would only be in a posi\u00adtion to issue the chil\u00addren with birth cer\u00adtifi\u00adcates, once the mother \u2018sorted out\u2019 her doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion.<\/p>\n<p>Read further on <a href=\"http:\/\/lrc.org.za\/lrcarchive\/press-releases\/3716-press-release-children-finally-receive-birth-certificates-after-lrc-intervenes\">LRC website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Yes\u00adter\u00adday, 13 Feb\u00adru\u00adary 2017, two chil\u00addren born in South Africa to a Swazi mother and South African father have finally had their births reg\u00adis\u00adtered and unabridged birth cer\u00adtifi\u00adcates issued after the LRC inter\u00advened on their behalf.
