{"id":13604,"date":"2017-07-14T09:19:31","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T09:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=13604"},"modified":"2022-02-02T08:45:58","modified_gmt":"2022-02-02T08:45:58","slug":"unhcr-campaign-to-end-statelessness-july-2017-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/unhcr-campaign-to-end-statelessness-july-2017-update\/","title":{"rendered":"UNHCR Campaign to End Statelessness Update July 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Update highlights many activities and developments on statelessness that have taken place globally in the last three months, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to eradicating statelessness:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Madagascar and Sierra Leone have amended their nationality laws to grant women equal rights with men to confer nationality on their children<\/strong>, bringing the total number of countries that retain such discrimination in their nationality laws down to 25.<\/li>\n<li>On 9 May, ECOWAS Ministers validated the &#8220;<strong>Banjul Plan of Action on the Eradication of Statelessness<\/strong>&#8221; during a regional meeting in The Gambia.
