{"id":19778,"date":"2017-08-02T11:24:16","date_gmt":"2017-08-02T11:24:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=19778"},"modified":"2018-09-08T11:27:17","modified_gmt":"2018-09-08T11:27:17","slug":"zambia-government-approves-dual-citizenship-malawi-diaspora-continues-to-wait-in-despair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/zambia-government-approves-dual-citizenship-malawi-diaspora-continues-to-wait-in-despair\/","title":{"rendered":"Zambia government approves dual citizenship; Malawi Diaspora continues to wait in despair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Ausborn Banda<\/p>\n<p>The Zambian Ministry of Home Affairs this week encouraged all interested Zambians living in the Diaspora and non-Zambians living in Zambia, to apply for dual citizenship, this follows amendments that it\u2019s lawmakers made to the Constitution and assented to by President Edgar Lungu.<\/p>\n<p>Home Affairs spokesperson Moses Suwali said in an interview in Lusaka Tuesday that the Ministry has established the modalities for the dual citizenship facility.<span id=\"more-17711\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Suwali said the new law puts the country on a progressive road as most people living in the Diaspora, will be able to come back home and positively contribute towards development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor people living in the Diaspora, this (law) puts them at great advantage; even foreigners who wish to become Zambians, can now apply.
