Supporters welcome it as a means of wooing foreign investors.<\/p>\n<p>On July 15, Egypt\u2019s parliament\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.ae\/world\/mena\/egypt-set-to-offer-new-path-to-citizenship-1.750987\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">approved a bill<\/a>\u00a0that, if ratified by the president, will allow foreign nationals to apply for citizenship \u2014 but it will cost them. Candidates for citizenship must deposit at least 7 million Egyptian pounds (about $391,000) in an Egyptian bank and leave it there for five years.
