{"id":31450,"date":"2021-03-25T08:45:49","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T08:45:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=31450"},"modified":"2021-03-26T08:49:03","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T08:49:03","slug":"namibia-parents-of-stateless-twins-take-case-to-high-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/namibia-parents-of-stateless-twins-take-case-to-high-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Namibia: Parents of stateless twins take case to high court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Eba Kandovazu<\/p>\n<p>THE parents of twin babies, Paula and Maya, have approached the High Court in Windhoek to seek an order that will compel the Namibian Government to grant the newborn pair citizenship.<\/p>\n<p>Guillermo Delgado was accompanied by his father when they arrived at the Windhoek High Court this morning, while his Namibian husband, Phillip L\u00fchl, is currently still stuck in Durban, South Africa, with their twins that were born this month via surrogacy.<\/p>\n<p>The surrogate mother carried Paula and Maya Delgado L\u00fchl to term and gave birth on 13 March 2021 in Durban.<\/p>\n<p>The parents of the twin girls approached the High court after the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security refused to issue travel documents to the twins to enter Namibia, as the country does not recognise same-sex marriages nor surrogacy.<\/p>\n<p>Read further: <a href=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=302524\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=302524<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By Eba Kandovazu THE parents of twin babies, Paula and Maya, have approached the High Court in Windhoek to seek an order that will compel the Namibian Government to grant the newborn pair citizenship.
