{"id":398,"date":"2013-07-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/test.hennhoneyball.com\/no-change-to-citizenship-law-chinamasa\/"},"modified":"2016-08-25T19:27:07","modified_gmt":"2016-08-25T19:27:07","slug":"no-change-to-citizenship-law-chinamasa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/no-change-to-citizenship-law-chinamasa\/","title":{"rendered":"No change to citizenship law: Chinamasa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa has ruled out changes to the country\u2019s citizenship laws following Zanu PF\u2019s landslide victory in last week\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n<p>With the parties to the outgoing government giving conflicting interpretations of the relevant provisions in the country\u2019s new constitution, it had remained unclear whether dual citizenship was now legal under the new charter.<\/p>\n<p>Clarity over the issue was only provided by the Constitutional Court when it ordered the registrar general to restore businessman, Mutumwa Mawere\u2019s citizenship.
