In the ruling, Justice John Chigiti ordered the government to ensure public participation and data protection impact assessment before implementing the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit, filed by a consortium of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standardmedia.co.ke\/article\/2001481471\/lobby-groups-oppose-maisha-namba-roll-out\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Human rights organizations<\/a>, argued that the government\u2019s move to introduce digital ID posed a serious threat to people\u2019s privacy, and could prevent historically marginalized and minority groups from obtaining identification documents and, therefore, becoming digital citizens.<\/p>\n<p>This article underscores the critical need for former stateless minorities to access digital citizenship and enjoy the right to nationality.
