In<\/span><\/span> C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/span><\/span>, the Department of Aid and<\/span><\/span> Assistance to Refugees and Stateless Persons<\/span><\/span> drafted and validated standard operating procedures<\/span><\/span>
(SOPs) for the implementation of the statelessness<\/span><\/span> determination procedure during a workshop on 26<\/span><\/span> and 27 April. The SOPs outline procedural standards<\/span><\/span> and clarify the roles of different actors involved in<\/span><\/span> identifying and referring cases of potential stateless<\/span><\/span> migrants to the competent authorities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In<\/span><\/span> Burkina Faso<\/span><\/span>, UNHCR provided technical and<\/span><\/span> financial support to civil registration authorities<\/span><\/span> which resulted in the issuance of birth\u00a0 certificates<\/span><\/span> to over 4,000 internally displaced persons and host<\/span><\/span> community members in Boucle du Mouhoun, Centre-<\/span><\/span>East, Hauts-Bassins, and South-West regions.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In<\/span><\/span> Kenya<\/span><\/span>, the Government carried out a nationality<\/span><\/span> confirmation exercise in Kwale, Kilifi, and Mombasa<\/span><\/span> counties from 2 March to 7 April, in partnership with<\/span><\/span> UNHCR and the NGO Haki Centre. The initiative<\/span><\/span> resulted in the submission of 1,894 applications for<\/span><\/span> Kenyan ID cards and the processing of 2,195 birth <\/span><\/span>certificates for members of the Pemba community.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Government of<\/span><\/span> Burkina Faso<\/span><\/span>, with the support<\/span><\/span> of UNHCR, collected biometric data of over 9,000<\/span><\/span> internally displaced persons and members of the<\/span><\/span> host community who are at risk of statelessness<\/span><\/span> in the Boucle du Mouhoun, Centre-East, Hauts-<\/span><\/span>Bassins, and South-West regions, in order to issue<\/span><\/span> them with national identity cards.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
