{"id":40601,"date":"2024-05-28T18:18:38","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T18:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=40601"},"modified":"2024-05-30T18:25:42","modified_gmt":"2024-05-30T18:25:42","slug":"african-american-wants-court-to-grant-him-kenyan-citizenship-by-ancestry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/african-american-wants-court-to-grant-him-kenyan-citizenship-by-ancestry\/","title":{"rendered":"African-American wants court to grant him Kenyan citizenship by ancestry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An African-American who is seeking to be recognised as a Kenyan citizen by ancestry, has claimed that he suffered name-calling when he lived in the US.<\/p>\n<p>While testifying before a Mombasa court, Mr Mubarak Abdul Muqsit Akram said since his childhood and into adulthood while in the US, he and his family were called \u201ccoloured people\u201d among other derogatory names.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Akram wants the court to order State authorities to issue him a Kenyan citizenship.<\/p>\n<p>He says he chose to settle in Kenya because he feels it is close to him, adding that Kenyans are good people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have chosen Kenya and not other countries.
