{"id":42163,"date":"2023-01-27T08:13:43","date_gmt":"2023-01-27T08:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=42163"},"modified":"2025-02-24T08:20:36","modified_gmt":"2025-02-24T08:20:36","slug":"nigeria-national-commission-for-refugees-migrants-and-internally-displaced-persons-act-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/en\/nigeria-national-commission-for-refugees-migrants-and-internally-displaced-persons-act-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria: National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Act, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Act to repeal the National Commission for Refugees Act, CAP N21, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and enact the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Act, 2022 for the management, rehabilitation, return, reintegration and resettlement of refugees, migrants and victims of displacement; and for related matters.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Objectives:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">1.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The objectives of this Act shall be to &#8211;<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(a)<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">safeguard the interest of persons of concern in Nigeria by ensuring <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that the sanctity of human persons is protected ; and<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(b)<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">implement the &#8211;<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(i) United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, 1951,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(ii) Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees, 1967,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(iii) Organisation of African Unity Convention Governing the Specific <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">aspects of refugee problems in Africa, 1969,<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(iv) 1954 Convention Relating to the Status of Stateless Persons, and<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(v) other treaties and conventions in relation to refugees, migrants, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">asylum seekers, and internally displaced persons, which are ratified and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">domesticated by Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Download: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.refworld.org\/legal\/legislation\/natlegbod\/2022\/en\/147560\">https:\/\/www.refworld.org\/legal\/legislation\/natlegbod\/2022\/en\/147560<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An Act to repeal the National Commission for Refugees Act, CAP N21, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and enact the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Act, 2022 for the management, rehabilitation, return, reintegration and resettlement of refugees, migrants and victims of displacement; and for related matters.
