Children affected by armed conflict often face barriers to obtaining proof of identity or nationality, placing them at risk of statelessness, exclusion, and limited access to education, healthcare, and protection services. The workshop served as a regional platform to exchange good practices, identify legal and administrative gaps, and promote coordinated policy responses that ensure no child is left without a recognized identity.

Discussions emphasized the need to strengthen national civil registration systems, align legislative frameworks with international and regional standards, and enhance institutional capacity to deliver inclusive and child-sensitive legal identity services, particularly in conflict- and displacement-affected contexts. Participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to uphold children’s rights under international human rights and humanitarian law. They also endorsed a regional roadmap to advance nationality rights and legal identity for children affected by armed conflict, which will serve as a guiding framework for collective action and accountability.

For more information about the event, please contact the OSRSG-CAAC, Doha Hub.

Read original: https://childrenandarmedconflict.un.org/2025/11/regional-workshop-on-advancing-nationality-rights-and-legal-identity-for-children-affected-by-armed-conflict-organized-by-the-office-of-the-special-representative-for-children-and-armed-conflict-in-p/

Cairo, Egypt, 27 November 2025 – The Analysis and Outreach Hub of the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG CAAC) in Doha, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in close cooperation with the League of Arab States (LAS), hosted a regional workshop on 26-27 […]
[1

post-42848","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","region-north-africa","type-news-articles","item-year-698","item-theme-acquisition-by-children","item-theme-birth-registration","item-theme-statelessness
["GET
