In a display of reconnection and healing, members of the African Diaspora Community were sworn in as Ghanaian citizens, marking a significant moment in the country\u2019s efforts to reconnect with its global family.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. the Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, emphasized Ghana\u2019s commitment to recognizing the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity and securing international recognition.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday is a declaration that history may scatter a people, but it cannot erase their identity. Ghana remains committed to being a home for the global African family,\u201d she declared.<\/p>\n
The newly sworn-in citizens were welcomed as family, with Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighting Ghana\u2019s vision for a future where Africans everywhere can contribute to shared prosperity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that the reconnection between Africa and the diaspora will unleash new possibilities for global African cooperation, cultural renewal and economic transformation,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
The event celebrated not only citizenship but also homecoming, with Prof. Opoku-Agyemang declaring, \u201cWelcome home. Akwaaba! Woezor! Obaake!\u201d<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, said that the ceremony represented the culmination of a legal and administrative process through which individuals with strong ties to Ghana have formally become citizens of the Republic.<\/p>\n
He noted that through the Ministry of the Interior and its partner institutions, the Government of Ghana remains committed to ensuring that the process of acquiring citizenship is transparent, credible, and consistent with the laws of Ghana.<\/p>\n
