Addis Ababa City Administration has suspended the renewal of residents identification cards (ID) beginning last July 11, 2022 until further notice.
It is an outcome of the current controversy surrounding the condominium housing draw.
The city admin is currently auditing the condominium houses drawn before last week and later suspended, according to Abdi Tsegaye, public relations bureau head of the city administration.
“It is a precaution measure taken to successfully complete the audit until the report is announced,” Abdi said.
Communications officer of Bole sub city, speaking on behalf of Wollega Kaba, head of vital event registration and information branch office of the sub city, said the other main reason for the city administration to suspend ID renewals is to “prevent terrorists and intruders,” from entering into the city in various ways.
Provision of new IDs has also been stopped beginning April 09, 2022, following the political decision made by federal officials as a precaution to national security threats and forged IDs, as the communications office explained.
