Aysheshim Teka, an Ethiopian businessman based in South Sudan, has been awarded a South Sudanese honorary citizenship by the country’s president.

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit bestowed the honorary citizenship on Aysheshim at a peace marathon, “The Great South Sudan Run”, held in Juba on Sunday. Aysheshim was honored with the award for “supporting national cohesion, unity and development” ever since political chaos rocked the new nation in 2013, triggering tribal hatred and social divide among the South Sudanese.

Speaking at the occasion, President Salva Kiir said the Ethiopian businessman, now South Sudanese as well, has been “a great friend and defender of humanity.”

Aysheshim Teka, who owns Dembesh Hotel of Juba, has contributed to South Sudan’s development by renovating the country’s police training centers, and raising funds for social welfare among others, President Salva Kiir noted.
