The Council has referred the new amendment to the Council of Representatives (Egypt\u2019s unicameral parliament) for a vote. (<a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.egyptindependent.com\/egypt-amends-law-strip-citizenship-convicted-crimes-harming-public-order\"><em>Egypt Amends Law to Strip Citizenship from Those Convicted in Crimes \u2018Harming Public Order\u2019<\/em><\/a>, Egypt Independent (Sept. 21, 2016); <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.refworld.org\/docid\/3ae6b4e218.html\">Law No. 26 of 1975<\/a>, 22 AL-JARIDDAH AL RASMYAH (May 29, 1975), <em>available at<\/em> REFWORLD.)<\/p>\n<p>The new amendment allows the Prime Minister to strip the Egyptian citizenship of individuals who are seeking to undermine the public order of the state or who have been convicted of crimes related to endangering state security.
