{"id":19538,"date":"2016-08-24T10:00:29","date_gmt":"2016-08-24T10:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=19538"},"modified":"2018-08-20T10:02:22","modified_gmt":"2018-08-20T10:02:22","slug":"walus-likely-to-lose-his-sa-citizenship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/fr\/walus-likely-to-lose-his-sa-citizenship\/","title":{"rendered":"Walus likely to lose his SA citizenship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Louise Flanagan<\/p>\n<p>Johannesburg &#8211; Convicted killer Janusz Walus is on the way to losing his South African citizenship, so if he&rsquo;s paroled he won&rsquo;t see much of South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the Department of Home Affairs confirmed that officials have written to Walus warning him that his citizenship and permanent residency permit were in the process of being revoked.<\/p>\n<p>Home Affairs spokesman Mayihlome Tshwete said the matter was not finalised, as the department was waiting for the end of the legal process around Walus&rsquo;s bid for parole.<\/p>\n<p>Walus, who is Polish but obtained South African citizenship years ago, was convicted of murdering SACP leader Chris Hani in 1993 and is serving a life sentence.
