{"id":23153,"date":"2019-07-08T09:22:19","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T09:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=23153"},"modified":"2019-07-08T19:24:27","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T19:24:27","slug":"migrant-children-face-high-risk-of-statelessness-in-sa-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/fr\/migrant-children-face-high-risk-of-statelessness-in-sa-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Migrant children face high risk of statelessness in SA &#8211; report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the report, which included more than 300 foreign national children, 40% of children have no evidence of their nationality.<\/p>\n<div class=\"byline\">Kaylynn\u00a0Palm <abbr class=\"timeago\" title=\"14 hours ago\"><\/abbr><\/div>\n<p>CAPE TOWN \u2013 Close to 40% of foreign children entering South Africa are at risk of statelessness and have no documents at all.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to a report published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2019\/05\/20\/scalabrini-heads-back-to-court-over-closure-of-ct-refugee-reception-office\">Scalabrini Centre<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ewn.co.za\/Topic\/International-Organisation-for-Migration\">International Organisation for Migration<\/a> on foreign children migrating to South Africa. They surveyed every known case at children&rsquo;s homes in the Western Cape, Limpopo and Gauteng over the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>Statelessness means they are not considered as nationals by any state under that country&rsquo;s law.<\/p>\n<p>Scalabrini\u2019s Lotte Manicom said the children faced a high risk of statelessness.
