{"id":25541,"date":"2019-06-10T16:52:07","date_gmt":"2019-06-10T16:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=25541"},"modified":"2019-12-06T16:52:33","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T16:52:33","slug":"egypts-amended-nationality-law-grants-foreigners-citizenship-under-new-conditions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/fr\/egypts-amended-nationality-law-grants-foreigners-citizenship-under-new-conditions\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt\u2019s amended nationality law grants foreigners citizenship under new conditions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The National Defense and Security Committee of the House of Representatives on Sunday approved a bill amending the Nationality Law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Chairman of the committee, Major General Kamal Amer said that these amendments aim at granting citizenship in exchange for investments, which will have a positive impact towards achieving economic development and national security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The amendments, he added, specify conditions for granting citizenship and stipulate the prime minister\u2019s approval to grant citizenship towards every foreigner who buys property, establishes investment projects, or make a deposit in foreign currency.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">A unit from the Cabinet will examine requests to acquire the Egyptian citizenship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The new citizen has to pay US$10,000 in return, according to Amer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The current law, No. 173 of 2018, authorizes the Minister of the Interior to grant nationality to a foreigner who has been residing in Egypt for five consecutive years and made a deposit of not less than LE7 million.
