{"id":26014,"date":"2019-09-05T09:58:58","date_gmt":"2019-09-05T09:58:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=26014"},"modified":"2020-01-22T10:00:48","modified_gmt":"2020-01-22T10:00:48","slug":"nigeria-to-receive-433m-from-world-bank-for-biometric-national-id-registration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/fr\/nigeria-to-receive-433m-from-world-bank-for-biometric-national-id-registration\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria to receive $433M from World Bank for biometric national ID registration"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"byline\">By Chris Burt<\/div>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>The World Bank is pouring $433 million (N1.5 trillion) in support into the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) of Nigeria\u2019s National Identity Number (NIN) program, to enable the agency to register close to 100 million Nigerians over the next three years, <a href=\"https:\/\/leadership.ng\/2019\/09\/04\/world-bank-to-inject-433m-into-nigerias-national-identity-card-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leadership<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>According to Leadership, the funding comes as part of the World Bank\u2019s support, along with that of the Agence Fran\u00e7aise de D\u00e9velopement (AFD) and the European Union (EU), for Nigeria\u2019s Digital Identity Ecosystem. NIMC\u2019s strategic roadmap for Nigeria\u2019s Digital Identity Ecosystem was approved by the country\u2019s Federal Executive Council (FEC) a year ago.
