{"id":31213,"date":"2021-02-21T09:30:25","date_gmt":"2021-02-21T09:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/?p=31213"},"modified":"2021-02-22T09:33:43","modified_gmt":"2021-02-22T09:33:43","slug":"egypts-stateless-keep-receiving-empty-promises-of-citizenship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/fr\/egypts-stateless-keep-receiving-empty-promises-of-citizenship\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt&rsquo;s stateless keep receiving empty promises of citizenship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Egypt has recently granted citizenship to three brothers from the Sinai Peninsula, renewing calls by other stateless individuals, mainly tribesmen, to receive the citizenship as they are deprived of their most basic rights.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"body_copy text-black\">The Egyptian Ministry of Interior has recently granted citizenship to three stateless individuals\u00a0who were born in the south Sinai Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_copy text-black\">In a decision issued Feb. 11, the Ministry of Interior\u00a0said it was \u201cgranting Egyptian citizenship to three brothers who had no nationality\u00a0\u2014\u00a0namely Salem Halil Nasr Salem, born in south Sinai on Sept. 25, 1977;\u00a0Radhia Halil Nasr Salem, born in south Sinai on Sept. 25, 1975;\u00a0and Abdallah Halil Nasr Salem born on Nov. 5, 2001, in accordance with the fifth paragraph of Article 4 of <a href=\"https:\/\/manshurat.org\/node\/7358\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Law No. 26 of 1975<\/a> concerning the Egyptian nationality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/pulse\/originals\/2020\/11\/egypt-sudan-israel-halayeb-shalateen-triangle-dispute-border.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Halayeb and Shalateen<\/a>, a border area claimed by both Egypt and Sudan, many tribesmen are stateless. Since Egypt annexed the territory in 1902, several people have returned to Sudan. But those who remained have yet to receive the Egyptian citizenship, mainly from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elwatannews.com\/news\/details\/846070\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">al-Atman and Rashaida<\/a> tribes.
