At <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">present, this is <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">prohibited<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\"> by a <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">number of factors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Recommendations <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Members of P<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">arliament should <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">petition within the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Parliament of Uganda <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">for the review and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">amendment <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">of the policy on birth registration in Uganda, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">with the following provisions: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\">Children born <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">LRA captivity <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">in the D<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">emocratic <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">R<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">epublic of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">C<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">ongo<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\"> (DRC)<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">, C<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">entral African <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Republic <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">(CAR) <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">or South Sudan <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">who <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">have returned home <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">must be registered <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">and provided with <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">birth certificates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\">Children born <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">LRA captivity must <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">be allowed to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">use family information from the different <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">places of reunion to be registered for <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">birth certificates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\">Children born <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">LRA captivity <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">who <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">have no medical records must be registered <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">and provided <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">with <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">birth certificates<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Download policy brief: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lse.ac.uk\/africa\/Assets\/Documents\/Policy-documents\/Trajectories-of-Displacement\/Policy-2-Birth-Registration-for-children-born-in-LRA-captivity-in-Northern-Uganda.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.lse.ac.uk\/africa\/Assets\/Documents\/Policy-documents\/Trajectories-of-Displacement\/Policy-2-Birth-Registration-for-children-born-in-LRA-captivity-in-Northern-Uganda.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Summary In order to participate fully in society and exercise their rights as Ugandan citizens, children born in the Lord\u2019s Resistance Army (LRA) captivity need access to birth registration.
