President Yoweri Museveni has promised to sit and discuss with the NRM parliamentary caucus on the possibility of amending the constitution to add Indians as an indigenous tribe.<\/p>\n
Museveni, while meeting the Indian community in Uganda on Wednesday in Entebbe, said the amendment shouldn\u2019t be a problem given how Indians over the decades have become part of the Ugandan society.<\/p>\n
\u201cSociologically, you already have a tribe here, and all we need is to accept the reality and put it in the constitution,\u201d Museveni said., \u201cYour internal differences (tribal groupings) are none of our business; after all, even the African groups also have their own clans.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, I am going to take it up in our caucus. Logically it is clear that you are now part of us here,\u201d Museveni added.<\/p>\n
