The group wants a clean break from South Africa and hope to make the Western Cape its own country \u2013 leaving the rest of the country with just eight provinces.<\/p>\n<p>In his letter, Zungula said Craig\u2019s call raises serious concerns regarding the potential fragmentation of South Africa, as Cape Independence would undermine the country\u2019s unity and diversity, lead to economic instability, and potentially create new social and political tensions.<\/p>\n<p>Zungula said the group\u2019s emphasis on regional identity would have a detrimental impact and might even exacerbate racial tensions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCape Independence would worsen the plight of black marginalised people in the region, further worsen poverty and inequality by stripping them of vital South African Constitutional protections and affirmative action measures,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Read further: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesouthafrican.com\/news\/politics\/revoke-cape-independence-leaders-sa-citizenship-leon-schreiber-hears\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.thesouthafrican.com\/news\/politics\/revoke-cape-independence-leaders-sa-citizenship-leon-schreiber-hears\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ATM leader Vuyo Zungula says Cape Independence leader Phil Craig is sowing divisions in SA and his citizenship should be revoked.
