A contribution to the <a href=\"https:\/\/opendemocracy.net\/openglobalrights\" target=\"_blank\">openGlobalRights<\/a> debate on <a href=\"https:\/\/opendemocracy.net\/openglobalrights\/debating-economic-and-social-rights\" target=\"_blank\">economic and social rights<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Little explanation is needed to imagine the impact of Madagascar\u2019s 2009 coup and resulting five-years of illegitimate rule on respect for human rights in the country.
