{"id":6991,"date":"2014-10-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-15T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/burundi-refugees-become-citizens\/?lang=fr"},"modified":"2018-05-25T07:13:49","modified_gmt":"2018-05-25T07:13:49","slug":"burundi-refugees-become-citizens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenshiprightsafrica.org\/fr\/burundi-refugees-become-citizens\/","title":{"rendered":"Burundi refugees become citizens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Jakaya Kikwete has presented certificates of Tanzanian citizenship to former 162,156 refugees from Burundi who fled to Tanzania 42 years ago in 1972 amid conflicts in their country.<\/p>\n<p>The head of state presented the certificates which recognize the former refugees as Tanzanian citizens, as the Tabora Regional Commissioner\u2019s offices on Tuesday evening during his two-day tour of the region to inspect development projects.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kikwete presended the certificates to 19 naturalized citizens on behalf of their counterparts.
