Some feared losing their jobs, others believed that it was nothing more than a ploy to force them out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like they\u2019re chasing us out, they\u2019re killing us,\u201d a Zimbabwean immigrant told one newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>On 12 August, South Africa\u2019s Home Affairs minister, Malusi Gigaba belatedly tried to ease those fears, announcing that a new permit had been created to re-register Zimbabwean nationals.
