Immigration chief defends new passport fee

The Immigration Department in Sierra Leone has defended the new passport price which sparked a heated debate in the country.
The government through the Immigration department recently announced the introduction of a biometric passport, from the current ordinary machine readable.

But the cost for the passport, at Le500, 000 (US$100) has been criticized as too expensive for most Sierra Leoneans.

The past few weeks have witnessed sustained criticism of the Le 500, 000 (US$100) price tag the Immigration Department placed on it and those opposing it say it is expensive and will be out of reach for most Sierra Leoneans.
