THE Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration is investigating 70 cases of sham marriages between Namibians and foreign nationals.

During a media briefing in Windhoek yesterday, the deputy minister of home affairs and immigration, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, revealed that of the 70 cases, 10 have been concluded and arrests have been made.

She, however, stated that more arrests will be made and that there are more cases of fake marriages that the ministry is unaware of.

Citizens of Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Pakistan and especially Egypt make up the majority of perpetrators, targeting mostly women between the ages of 25 and 40 to obtain permanent residence in Namibia.
