National ID: 9.5m Nigerians register

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it will begin the enrolment of Nigerians in the Diaspora in September as part of its grand plan to register all the nation’s citizens.

The Director-General NIMC, Mr Aliyu Aziz, stated in Abuja when the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, visited him in Abuja.

Aziz said that 9.5 million people had been registered on the NIMC database from inception till date.

The DG said that the commission was taking its time to have a database that could be used for identity management which he said was a continuous process.
