ACJPS is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to creating a Sudan committed to all human rights, the rule of law and peace, in which the rights and freedoms of the individual are honored and where all persons and groups are granted their rights to non-discrimination, equality and justice. ACJPS’ Legal Program monitors legal developments and conducts legal research; conducts strategic litigation to pursue effective remedies for human rights violations and to influence law, policy and practice. As part of its strategic litigation work, in August 2015, ACJPS along with Peoples’ Legal Aid Clinic (PLACE) submitted a complaint to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) challenging provisions in the nationality law that automatically revokes Sudanese nationality from people of South Sudanese origin without due process of the law and in contravention with provisions under the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
