Palestinian Salafist leader stripped of Egypt nationality

The Egyptian government on Monday revoked the citizenship of a Palestinian Salafist leader – who also carries Egyptian nationality – for alleged links to “foreign entities” that “seek to undermine the social and economic order of the state.”

According to Egypt’s official gazette, which publishes official government decrees, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab decided to revoke the citizenship of Mohamed Salman Abu Jameh for “living abroad and having links to foreign entities that seek to undermine the social and economic order of the state.”

Abu Jameh, head of the so-called Palestinian Salafist Scholars Association, is the third individual to have his Egyptian citizenship revoked since President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi assumed power in June.
