Sierra Leone Citizenship Amendment Act No.11 of 2006

Amendments to the 1973 Citizenship in order to :

  • permit a citizen of Sierra Leone to hold a citizenship of another country in addition to his citizenship of Sierra Leone; and
  • remove gender discrimination in attribution of citizenship to children born in Sierra Leone.

The amendments leave racial discrimination in place, as well as gender discrimination in transmission of citizenship to spouses and to children born outside the country.
