Uganda: New body to register births and deaths

The mandate to register births and deaths has been transferred to the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) in a bid to have one registration body in the country.

The change comes after Parliament enacted the Registration of Persons Act, 2015, which established the independent authority to carry out the duties. The authority, which is under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, officially started its work yesterday and according to the ministry spokesperson, it was a success.
