Constitution of The Gambia 1997, Chapter III, as amended 2001

Approved by national referendum on 8 August 1996, entered into force on 16 January 1997 (Act No. 1 of 1997).

Chapter III of the Constitution governs citizenship.

In addition, Article 62 provides that a person shall be qualified for election as president only if he or she is a citizen of The Gambia by birth or descent and does not hold the citizenship of a country other than The Gambia.
