Sierra Leone Citizenship Amendment Bill 2017

Amends section 5 of the 1973 Act to remove gender discrimination in transmission of citizenship to children born outside the country. The new version provides (deletions in brackets, additions in bold) that :

“Every person born outside Sierra Leone on or after the nineteenth day of April 1971, of a father or mother who was or would but for [his] the death of the person have been a citizen of Sierra Leone by virtue of sections 2, 3 and 4, is a citizen of Sierra Leone by birth.”
